Mads Østberg could even win the championship this weekend
The final round of this year's Hungarian Rally Championship has come to an end, and Citroën Rally Team Hungary has a pair of world champions in the field. Mads Østberg and Torstein Eriksen were also involved in the WRC2 series this season, which meant they skipped two Hungarian races, but they are still in the title fight for the national championship before the final round. They are looking forward to the Zemplén event with their Citroën C3 Rally2 prepared by Tagai Racing Technology, which is also part of the European Championship classification.
The Norwegian pair finished the WRC2 season in Spain. In the World Championship drivers and co-drivers are classified separately, and although a puncture at the start of the race took away their chance for both to celebrate as champions again, the Norwegians fought hard for at least the co-driver’s title and won the last stage to regain the WRC2 World Champion title for Torstein Eriksen!
This is how the boys arrived at the test before Rally Hungary. "Our season has not gone as planned”, said the Norwegian world champion a little sadly. "But now we're back in Hungary, where we have a very nice environment to race in and now, we're just focusing on that!"
Almost all top drivers of the European Championship have entered the event, which is particularly inspiring for the Citroën Rally Team Hungary. "Many people have raced here before, so they have a bit of an advantage over us, but we will try to match our form from last week and we are confident that both we and the spectators will have a great time!"
They won two races this season with the Citroën C3 Rally2 by Tagai Racing Technology and despite missing two races, mathematically, they are still championship contenders. "The Hungarian guys are very fast, they know the stages well, but we are driven by our Viking blood, and the car is very good, too, so we will try to do our best."
